For many years, I have guffawed at how everyone had to have an mp3 player, let alone one made by Apple. I should just never open my mouth.
For my birthday (June 4th), my mom offered to get me a shuffle. I thought that sounded good, since I could use it when I exercised. Since that time, I have had an ongoing love affair with this tiny thing, except for one traumatic incident where I accidentally threw away the headphones. People, it makes *everything* better!! Need some motivation for exercising? Ipod shuffle. Hate doing chores around the house? Ipod shuffle. Want to tune out your children/spouse/boss? Ipod shuffle.
I love it so much that I am going to pony up the money for one of you to have one. All you have to do is leave a comment telling me one way that you are frugal and one way that you aren't. I will randomly draw a winner on Saturday. Make sure your comment includes some way that I can reach you. This is open to anyone in the U.S., including people that I know in real life and/or relatives. 'Cause I totally believe in nepotism.
Go!

Oooh, do I get the first entry?
1 way I am frugal:
I blogged for 2 years with free dial-up, and only switched when I took a paid blogging spot that allows me to deduct high-speed as a business expense.
1 way I am not frugal:
Elise has 27 dresses in her closet. That fit her right now.
(If you think you have a hard time paring your wardrobe now, Tessa, just wait until you give birth to the world's most feminine little girl!)
One way I am frugal: I don't pay to get my hair done or cut becuase I think it cost to much. I usually keep it long and have my sister trim it
One way i am not frugal: I would say that would be what I will spend on the grandkids. They usually get what they want.

Hi Tessa,
I am glad you started blogging again. I have enjoyed your posts.
One way I am frugal is that I have not bought an outfit in about 5 years. I have a friend who gives me her hand-me-downs, and that works for me.
One way I am NOT frugal is that my son and I like to go out to eat about twice a month. Like yesterday we were out doing errands and went to our favorite sushi restaurant. That was over $30 for lunch.

1 way that I am frugal:
I keep a list of family's clothing sizes and interests with me at all times. Throughout the year I buy presents on sale, including wrapping paper, ribbons & supplies to make cards and envelopes. I have yet to spend more than $300 for all present-giving occasions for our immediate family and closest friends (20 people).
1 way that I am NOT frugal:
Being a history Ph.D student I buy a LOT of books--so many that our small house has over 5 bookshelves totally stuffed--and several more boxes of books are stored at my parent's house.
Hi Tessa,
1 way that I am not frugal:
I get my hair cut and highlighted by a professional two or three times a year. It costs a lot of money but I love how I look.
1 way that I am frugal:
I save even tiny scraps of leftovers to use over again. Right now I've got a half cup of malto meal in the fridge waiting to go into Amy D's universal muffins.

What a fun contest! Thanks!
One way I am frugal: My husband had a conference this week in Jackson, MS. I took some vacation time from work so that we could eek a free vacation out of it. He gets a "per diem" for food each day of $59 but we packed food from home to heat up in the microwave so that we can put that money towards debt!
One way I am NOT frugal: My husband and I both really like cutting edge technology. We have a digital camera now that still works, but since we know that the quality that is out there now is SO MUCH better, we are about to pony up $250 for a new one. Yikes!
Love your blog!
I am frugal by getting the best deals at CVS for things we actually need or can donate and combining that with coupons.
I am not frugal when it comes to buying pricey vegan snacks and goodies and eating out :)
thanks for the chance in the contest!

One way I am frugal: I always, always pack my lunch. That was true when I was working and it's also true now that I am a full-time university student. I sit there with my tuna sandwich and my little plastic container of pickles and my apple and the diet Coke that I froze earlier that day -- and watch students drop $6, $8, $10 or more on lunch. My meals cost $1 or less, and sometimes *much* less.
One way I am not frugal: Every month I send money to an elderly and frail relative, and grocery store gift cards to another relative who is financially squeezed. What good is frugality if we don't use some of our savings to help others?
Thanks for the chance to enter. I love contests.

the biggest non frugal thing is that I send all three of my chldren to Catholic Schools. I mean a grade school, a high school and a college.
My biggest and strangest to my family frugal thing is that I make my own detergent for the laundry and the dishes. I can make any scent I want and It really is much much cheaper
One way I am frugal is by trying to keep my kid's clothes clean and then selling them at consignment sales. I then take that money and use it to buy brand new items that are on clearance at nice stores. It works well for me
One way I am not frugal is with my husband's lunches. He eats out rather often when he is at school. We are still working on a solution for that one!
Wow Dr. Tessa, this is a generous offer! I was flying home from a business conference and tried a friend's ipod. I declared right then and there that I want one for my birthday.
Ok: I'm frugal when I make homemade pizza or salads for dinner and then use our bogo Dairy Queen coupons after seeing the free big band music on the weekends for our "date out".
I'm not frugal when my daughter has the same day off of work as me. Then we go to lunch wherever she wants to go, mostly because it doesn't happen that often.
I am Frugal when it comes to a multitude of areas but when it comes to our Health I will not be frugal.
For instance one area of being Frugal in I will usually buy generic brand once and most of the time it is for better than the name brand with a coupon.
Health wise I am not frugal when it comes to Doctor's Appointments unless I can treat the issues at home with A more natural approach to Health Care.
God Bless,

Okay Tessa, you got me...I'm leaving my first comment EVER on a ANYONE'S blog! This is extremely nice of you to offer a free prize.
So, I am frugal when it comes to clothes. I like to use the consignment stores and 75% off sales and clearance racks at the department stores.
I am not frugal when it comes to eating out. I love to just grab something at a fast food place on the way home rather than cook a meal (I wish I could do that EVERY night!). I also like to go out to eat on Sundays after church.
Thanks Tessa!

I am frugal: I absolutely scrimp and save on groceries.
I am not frugal: I vow every single week not to eat out at lunch but I almost always do at least one or 2 days a week.
Hi! I found your blog via The Homespun Heart and really enjoy your perspective and sharing your bargains.
A way I am frugal: cutting coupons and shopping a couple stores for groceries for loss leaders and Walgreens for the free stuff.
Not frugal: After 6 years of the frugal life, I still love to eat out. We try to use coupons, but it is still never as cheap as eating at home.
Awesome giveaway!
I am frugal when it comes to grocery shopping and clip coupons and buy marked down meat.
I am not frugal when it comes to my weekly Starbucks habit. At least I don't go daily!

dear old friend, i need not the shuffle as my fabulous boyfriend bought me a full fledged ipod for my birthday two years ago...
however,
i wrote in my own blog about getting 3 pairs of pants and 2 bras for FREE recently. b/c i'm awesome.
i'm not frugal in my makeup spending habits. sephora is my crack, and i worship the benefit gods. however, i always get the free shipping and the free samples by waiting until i need a lot of stuff, or have others chip in so i can get the free super deluxe sample.
yay for me.
I always hit the clearance racks for clothes. I try to buy everyone basic styles that can be worn in all seasons. This year it's going to be hard because my oldest starts middle school, grr.
Not frugal:
I buy myself a new camera every year. Seriously. We have 7 cameras in this house. I just bought a Nikon Coolpix. Now a need a new bag for it :)

I am frugal in that I make nearly all of my own cleaning supplies (which are nicer to use and actually cheaper in the long run than the store bought kind!).
I am not frugal when it comes to books. I have a love affair with books which can get very dangerous, especially as I really like well-kept early editions of books and the feel of brand new, never-before read books.
I am frugal: I don't spend on cleaning agents...just stick to an abrasive (baking soda), a disinfectant (bleach) and a streak proof cleaner (vinegar)
Not so frugal: Tide
(I know it sort of doesn't make sense at all does it!)
I have never won a thing on give-a-ways, but am always excited for the person who does!
Blessings! Shawn <><
Hi Little T,
I am usually frugal when shopping for clothes, and will watch the clearance rack and also shop at resale shops. When I do buy new clothes, I (try) and go through my old ones, and take seldom worn items to the resale store. (Since I don't want my closet to get too crowded and have to call in the Organizer again!)
Not frugal when it comes to books. I love 'em all--new, used, well worn. Joining PaperbackSwap was one of the smartest things I ever did, but I'm still weak when it comes to buying books.
Love,
Auntie T.
I am so excited about your contest. I have been reading your blog for a while.
I am frugal when it comes to my furniture and home deco. Every piece of furniture in my home was bought second-hand (except mattresses). I tallied it up all and for a 2 bed room house and it was less than $1500.
I am not frugal when we eat out 2-3lunches a week with my husband (granted it is only $10 for both of us at a little Tex-Mex place). And I also treat myself to fabric softner called "Silk Cashmere", it smells so good.
Thanks for having such a great contest.
Carrie
I am frugal by being a fanatic about turning the lights off around the house. I have compact floresent bulbs in almost every fixture & my kids know to keep lights off during daylight hours.
I'm not so frugal when it comes to runnung the AC. I like it COLD!
Great Giveaway! I heard about you from a story on KY3, cool blog! jen4realty (at) yahoo (dot) com
Great giveaway!
One way I am frugal is I always hang the laundry out to dry.
One way I'm not is my addiction to Mountain Dew!

I know I already posted but I thought of this last night:
I was frugal when I bought a family rec center membership for 20 dollars a year so I could swim and get in shape.
I'm not frugal when I stay home and don't use it.
